You were going to sit in the library and look at your phone. Instead: walk eight minutes, open a door, sit at the back of a third‑year lecture and knowledgemaxx your way out of a break knowing something you didn't know going in. Nobody takes attendance in a room of two hundred, and your tuition already covered it.
Bring the laptop, do your readings. A lecture hall is the one room where you can't scroll, can't take a call, can't talk to anyone, so you just work. Cafés let you off. A stranger's lecture doesn't. When your brain gives out, look up and listen for ten minutes.
Whatever you picked at seventeen became your entire version of this place. Meanwhile a room away, people are thinking about cities, or proteins, or Ottoman tax records, and it has never once occurred to you. An hour in someone else's lecture is perspective: proof that your way of seeing things is one of many. Nothing else you do with a free hour does that.
